CSU Signs IMOU with Thailand's Department of Livestock Development
Dr. Salman, CSU APHI
& Director-General Chaosuancharoen, DLD
On January 30, 2013 Colorado State University and Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development (DLD) signed an International Memorandum of Understanding (IMOU) in Bangkok, Thailand. This agreement extends the current unofficial collaboration between the DLD and CSU’s Animal Population Health Institute (CSU APHI) in the field of animal health programs.
CSU APHI has been collaborating with Thailand’s DLD under the direction of Dr. Mo Salman for more than 10 years. Collaborative activities have focused on the training of DLD officers in the area of animal health, specifically veterinary epidemiology, through regular academic classes and specialized short training programs. Additionally, applied research projects of mutual benefit to both DLD and CSU APHI have been completed through this non-official collaboration.
The IMOU designates DLD as an official partner with CSU APHI. Through the IMOU both parties will promote voluntary interaction, encourage collaborative research, and build cooperative educational experiences that integrate theory and practice to encourage and support global perspectives and internationalization within CSU APHI’s mandate as an UN-FAO Reference Center for Veterinary Epidemiology. Both DLD and CSU APHI welcome short-term visiting scholars to deliver lectures and seminars, to engage in collaborative research in areas of common interest and to explore mutual projects and the means to support them. There is no obligation to expend monies or other resources connected with this IMOU.
CSU APHI was founded in 2002 by Institute Director, Dr. Salman. One of the foci of APHI activities is to contribute to national and international animal disease policymaking processes by providing a better understanding of disease epidemiology and pathogenesis.
The DLD was established as a department within Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives on 5 May 1942. The Department’s duties and responsibilities include the development of the livestock industry relating to production, quality, and livestock product safety through research. Special attention is given to research and study of veterinary epidemiology of animal diseases, including zoonoses, in disease prevention, control, and eradication.
